Camp Fort Greene has grown exponentially since it's inception only four years ago.  And no wonder, founder, Eisa Ulen Richardson and her partners, Chloe Taylor and Andriana Spence are a trifecta: experts in childhood development, education and business - as well as all things Brooklyn.  This summer, Camp Fort Greene introduces Tech Fort Greene which is a glowing example of why Camp Fort Greene is one of the most sought after camps in the Brooklyn area.

What is Tech Fort Greene?

We are super excited Camp Fort Greene Curriculum Director Chloe Taylor has developed Tech Fort Greene, a 3 week summer intensive camp for tech enthusiasts ages 8 through 10.

Why should a parent choose Tech Fort Greene for their child?

We have always developed quality programming at an affordable rate at Camp Fort Greene, and we're doing the same with Tech Fort Greene. Chloe is so devoted to real STEM learning - and not just screen time or science inquiry that is advertised as STEM. She wants children to have a fully immersive experience and emerge from Tech Fort Greene with real knowledge of things like Scratch, an introductory programming language. At the same time, we always remember that this is camp, and so our tech enthusiasts will also get plenty of time to run and play in the summer sun. At Tech Fort Greene, campers will work and play with peers to form memories and friendships to last a lifetime.

The Deets....

Tech Fort Greene will meet from August 1st through August 19th. Camp is from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, but we allow drop-off as early as 8:30, and parents can sign up for After Camp Care, which runs through 6:00.

Campers will need...

Our 8 to 10 year old campers will need to bring a healthy snack and lunch and a water bottle with them to Tech Fort Greene. Campers in our After Camp Care program should bring an additional healthy snack for the afternoon. Other than that, they need only bring their interest in technology. They will be working with exciting materials like Little Bits circuits, Bee Bots, and Lego Education software to really use their imaginations and innovate.

A kid would love Tech Fort Greene if she's/he's…

…. interested in programming robots, writing their first lines of code, and experimenting with circuits.

Do kids have to have any experience in coding or be particularly good at math/science?

We only ask that campers bring their imaginations and a real interest in technology. Prior camp or classroom experience is not required.

Camp Fort Greene and Tech Fort Greene are unique and special because....

We are a woman-owned business that is devoted to community and committed to healthy child development in our campers. Our own children are in Camp Fort Greene and Tech Fort Greene - and have been from the beginning. I think campers keep coming back to Camp Fort Greene year after year because, as they experience our fun, dynamic, caring, and supportive camp culture, they are, simply, and wonderfully, happy.

With Tech Fort Greene in particular, Chloe is very interested in giving our neighborhood kids access to tech learning that will empower them to continue learning in the future. One big goal of hers is to diversify the tech world by empowering more girls and children of color in STEM.

If I could offer a piece of advice to parents looking for a summer camp program it would be….

Listen to your children. They know what they want to do this summer. Give them the experience that will make them glow. Childhood is so precious. Summer memories are magic. As parents, our job is to support the wonder of each childhood summer.
